Avalanche Dynamics for Active Matter in Heterogeneous Media
نویسندگان
چکیده
Using numerical simulations, we examine the dynamics of active matter run-and-tumble disks moving in a disordered array of obstacles. As a function of increasing active disk density and activity, we find a transition from a completely clogged state to a continuous flowing phase, and in the large activity limit, we observe an intermittent state where the motion occurs in avalanches that are power law distributed in size with an exponent of β = 1.46. In contrast, in the thermal or low activity limit we find bursts of motion that are not broadly distributed in size. We argue that in the highly active regime, the system reaches a self-jamming state due to the activity-induced self-clustering, and that the intermittent dynamics is similar to that found in the yielding of amorphous solids. Our results show that activity is another route by which particulate systems can be tuned to a nonequilibrium critical state. ar X iv :1 70 9. 06 12 1v 1 [ co nd -m at .s of t] 1 8 Se p 20 17 Avalanche Dynamics for Active Matter in Heterogeneous Media 2

APPLICATIONS OF PARTIAL DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS IN STABILITY INDEX AND CRITICAL LENGTH IN AVALANCHE DYNAMICS
In this study, Stability analysis of snow slab which is under detonation has developed in the present model. The model has been studied by using the basic concepts of non-detonation model and concepts of underwater explosions with appropriate modifications to the present studies. The studies have also been extended to account the effect of critical length variations at the time of detonation an...

We study avalanche dynamics and local activity of forced-flow imbibition fronts in disordered media. We focus on the front dynamics as the mean velocity of the interface v is decreased and the pinning state is approached. Scaling arguments allow us to obtain the statistics of avalanche sizes and durations, which become power-law distributed due to the existence of a critical point at v=0 . Resu...

We study the avalanche dynamics of a system of globally coupled threshold elements receiving random input. The model belongs to the same universality class as the random-neighbor version of the Olami-Feder-Christensen stick-slip model. A closed expression for avalanche size distributions is derived for arbitrary system sizes N using geometrical arguments in the system's configuration space. For...

We describe a directed avalanche model; a slowly unloading sandbox driven by lowering a retaining wall. The directness of the dynamics allows us to interpret the stable sand surfaces as world sheets of fluctuating interfaces in one lower dimension. In our specific case, the interface growth dynamics belongs to the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) universality class. We formulate relations between the ...

We have studied numerically the dynamics of a driven elastic interface in a random medium, focusing on the thermal rounding of the depinning transition and on the behavior in the T = 0 pinned phase. Thermal effects are quantitatively more important than expected from simple dimensional estimates. For sufficient low temperature the creep velocity at a driving force equal to the T = 0 depinning f...
